Who We Are

Who We Are

At the Children’s Aid Society of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (CASSDG), we believe that protecting children and supporting families is a shared responsibility. Each year, we receive calls from caring community members—such as relatives, teachers, police, health care providers, and other professionals—who are concerned about a child’s safety or wellbeing.

Families reach out to us for many reasons. Some may be facing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, illness, domestic violence, or mental health concerns. Others simply need guidance, connection, or parenting support. When families need help, we work collaboratively to identify their strengths, connect them to community services, and provide supports that help them stay safely together.

Together with our community partners, we help build stronger, healthier families and safer communities for all children and youth.

Keeping Children Safe is a Shared Community Responsibility

Our primary focus

Our primary focus is the safety and well-being of children and youth. Our agency conducts assessments, offers support services such as counseling and teaching and, whenever possible, provides resources. The Children’s Aid Society of SDG also facilitates public adoptions for children and youth whose birth family is unable to care for.

Whether you’re a professional, a teacher, a family member or simply a concerned citizen, know that every call is evaluated individually before any action is taken.

We believe that children do best when they are at home with their families. In only a small number of cases are children removed from a family, since our priority is always to give parents the support and services they need to create a safe home.

Our Mandate

Under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA), Children’s Aid Societies are legally mandated to:

  • Investigate allegations or evidence that children or youth under 18 may be in need of protection.
  • Protect children where necessary to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
  • Provide counselling and support to families to help prevent situations requiring protection.
  • Provide care and supervision for children and youth who are placed in the Society’s care.

We believe that children belong with their families. Our work focuses on keeping families safely together, providing most services within the family home whenever possible. When children cannot remain safely at home, we work to ensure they are cared for by extended family, kin, or foster caregivers who provide stability, love, and connection.
