Although each child is different, they all have one thing in common: an immediate need for a safe and loving family.

Children in the care of the Children’s Aid Society come from many different cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds and range in age from infants up to 18. These children and youth may have been exposed to neglect, abusive situations or prenatal use of drugs and alcohol. Some children have special physical or emotional needs.

Although we may not always know a child’s full history, foster caregivers are provided with all known information regarding a child before he or she is placed with a family:

  • Reason why foster care is needed
  • Health condition - allergies, immunization, medication, etc.
  • Religious, cultural or ethnic considerations
  • Special needs
  • Interests, likes and passions
  • Extra-curricular or academic activities
